THE SEALING
2 Cor 1:20-22
20 For all the promises of God
in him
are yea, and in him Amen, unto the glory of God by us.
21 Now he which stablisheth us with you in
Christ, and hath anointed us, is God;
22 Who hath also sealed us, and
given the earnest of the Spirit in our hearts.
SEAL – STRONGS sphragizo (sfrag-id'-zo);; to
stamp (with a signet or private mark) for security or preservation
SEALED
Ephesians 1:13-14
13 In whom [Christ] ye also trusted,
after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom
also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy
Spirit of promise,
14 Which is the earnest of our
inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession
[our bodies], unto the praise of his glory.
Ephesians 4:30
30 And grieve not the holy Spirit
of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption.
1/THE SEALING OF THE HOLY GHOST IS
GOD’S MARK UPON AND IN US, FOR THE SEAL IS
THE HOLY GHOST, WHO SEALS US FOR:
A/Identification
The Holy Ghost marks
us as “whose we are,” and, “who we are” because of whose we
are. We are identified by His mark
after our baptism until the day of our full redemption
B/Preservation (We will not
be corrupted)
1 Thess 5:23 And the
very God of peace sanctify [set apart; mark?]you wholly; and I
pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless
unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Jude 1 Jude, the servant of Jesus Christ, and brother of James, to them that
are sanctified [set apart; marked?] by God the Father, and preserved
in Jesus Christ, and called:
THE EARNEST OF OUR
INHERITANCE
EARNEST – Greek: Arrhabon
STRONGS - arrhabon (ar-hrab-ohn'); of Hebrew
origin [OT:6162]; a pledge, i.e. part of the purchase-money or property given
in advance as security for the rest:
1/Binds the buyer to forfeiture of the
earnest if he does not fully purchase the item
2/Binds the seller to sell to no other than
the one from whom he received the earnest
2
Cor 1:20-22 (REPEATING)
20
For all the promises of God in him are yea, and in
him Amen, unto the glory of God by us.
21
Now he which stablisheth us with you in Christ, and hath anointed us, is God;
22
Who hath also sealed us, and given the earnest of
the Spirit in our hearts.
2
Cor 5:1-5
5
For we know that if our earthly house [our body] of this tabernacle [temporary
dwelling] were dissolved [we should die], we have a building of God
[another body], an house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens.
2
For in this we groan, earnestly desiring to be clothed upon with our house
which is from heaven [be dressed in our new body]:
3
If so be that being clothed we shall not be found naked.
4
For we that are in this tabernacle [temporary body] do groan, being burdened: not
for that we would be unclothed [we don’t plead to die and leave this
body], but clothed upon, that mortality might be swallowed up
of life [that this corruptible might put on incorruption; *see
1
Cor 15:51-54 below]
5
Now he that hath wrought us for the selfsame thing is God, who also hath
given unto us the earnest of the Spirit.
*
Cor 15:51-54
51
Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep [we shall
not all die] but we shall all be changed [given an
incorruptible body],
52
In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the
trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we
shall be changed.
53
For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must
put on immortality.
54
So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall
have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is
written, Death is *swallowed up in victory.
Eph
1:12-14 (Repeating)
12
That we should be to the praise of his glory, who first trusted in Christ.
13
In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of
your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with
that holy Spirit of promise,
14
Which is the earnest of our inheritance until the redemption of
the purchased possession, unto the praise of his glory.
Our
Father has promised that, either through resurrection from the dead or by
changing our vile body to incorruptibility at Jesus’ appearing, we will be His
Sons for eternity. The sure Sign of
that promise is the Holy Ghost in us and upon us: The Seal. The Assurance that His Promise of
full redemption will come to pass is the Holy Ghost in us and upon us, the Down
Payment: The Earnest of our Inheritance.
