This day has nothing to do with bunnies or with eggs.
Today is a day to reflect on the greatest love story of all time.
A love story that involves each and every one of us, whether we realize it or not.
Today is the day that we celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ.
We may think we “know”, but do we really?
This day has never meant more to me than it does right now.
I thought I knew, but I never really understood the “why”.
It all began in Genesis
when Eve was beguiled by the serpent. It's said that she gave some of the fruit to Adam and he, too, ate.
This can be seen in a way that makes us think Adam ate unknowingly.
Or we can see it in a way that Adam ate knowing that Eve would die and that he would rather follow her into death than to live without her.
If that’s the case, the first Adam can be seen as a foreshadowing of the last Adam: Jesus Christ Himself.
The significance of Jesus dying on the cross is that He knew what was to happen.
He knew God’s will and He willingly chose to die for us.
To be the ultimate sacrifice for us.
2 Corinthians 5:21 “For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.”
Jesus willingly chose death so that we may live.
So that we may have everlasting life with the Father.
Something we could never do on our own.
Romans 3:23–24 23 “...for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, 24 and are justified by his grace as a gift, through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus…”
With Jesus’ last breath, the curtain in the temple was torn.
The curtain that once kept us separated from God’s presence was torn so that we may have direct access to the Father through Jesus Christ Himself.
Jesus was the ultimate sacrifice for his bride.
Ephesians 5:25 “...just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her.”
Jesus loved us so much that He gave Himself up for us, choosing to take our place so we may be unified with Him forever.
Today we celebrate the remembrance of our greatest love story of all time.
Not a bunny or an egg in sight; only the Lamb of God laying down His life for us all.
